It is projected that by 2060, Uganda’s population will reach 104 million – more than double the current 46 million. This presents both an enormous opportunity and a challenge for the country. The current status quo limits the human capital accumulation of young Ugandans, constraining their income-generating ability.
While the proportion of people defined as ‘poor’ has fallen, the proportion of people who live above the poverty line but remain vulnerable to falling below it has increased. There are gaps in Uganda’s poverty data, which is highly concentrated at national and regional level. There has been no official publication of district and parish-level poverty statistics since 2014. To live in poverty is to lack the resources needed to meet basic needs. It can be measured in economic terms (income, expenditure or wealth), or using other measures including social, nutritional and cultural (or even multidimensional measures).
Shepherd cares foundation was estsblished in the year 2019, with an aim for extending help to the needy with basic needs. Our outreach Programme is a lifeline to hundreds of families in Uganda who would otherwise go without. We have partnered with Ruhanga safaris limited, a tour and travel company, that gives a percentage of its earning towards the cause. We have managed to provide cloths, soap, sanitary towels and reusable baby diapers to families to help them with their daily lives. We have reached districts like Mpigi, Nakaseke, wakiso, Luwero and Bugiri, and each district that we go to, we have established an on going system that ensures continuity of our programmes. All these programmes are limited with capital, it’s on this note that we encourage and beg, that if you feel touched, please contribute towards this cause.
